I have to admit that I really liked Kitty and Robert’s adoption experience, there has been alot about Kitty and Robert that I haven’t really cared for since then. (I’d love for those two crazy kids to work it out but the season finale didn’t give me much hope for them.) However, what I loved most about the way the adoption process was portrayed is that Trish, the Birthmother, is not only intelligent and educated – she’s a neurosurgeon and while there is someone that’s crazy and neurotic, it isn’t her. Kitty has an anxiety attack and ends up almost driving Trish away by insisting that Trish would change her mind. (Well yes, Trish did change her mind but not about adoption, just about Kitty and Robert!)
I really believe that every adoption story is unique and I liked that Brothers & Sisters added a whole new dimension that people may not have considered before.
If you you’ve never seen the show before you might want to check out the ABC website:
I’m afraid that I am often disappointed by the way the media handles adoption stories. They love to cover the sensational stories and write fictional accounts that are a complete and total train wreck, so I was skeptical when I saw that MTV’s 16 and Pregnant (the mere title which seems to imply a certain amount of sensationalism) was going to show a teen couple considering adoption. However, I was forced to put my skepticism aside, Catelynn and her boyfriend Tyler were vulnerable and determined, and watching the show it seems like they got almost no support from their family but they pulled together for their daughter. If you’re interested in adoption – I really encourage you to check out this compelling story, and don’t let the MTV tag fool you, it’s remarkably well done.
MTV has a blog for the show and Catelynn’s Posts are here: http://remotecontrol.mtv.com/tag/16-and-pregnants-catelynn/
It’s my intention to start this blog at the same time I started my journal. My son was conceived on September 11th so I still have a while before the journal started. In the meantime I thought I would share some things that are adoption related with you here. I’d love to make this website a spring board for you to find further information and to encourage discussion.
If you find something you want to share with me, leave me a comment!
